I Am Very Far is zeker anders geworden dan voorgaande platen als Black Sheep Boy (2005) en Down The River Of Golden Dreams (2003): steviger en bombastischer. Op de nieuwe plaat slaat Okkervil River de snaren wat harder aan maar nog altijd de vertrouwde gevoelige.
