Nelson Ackerman Eddy (June 29, 1901 - March 6, 1967) was an American singer and movie star who appeared in 19 musical films during the 1930s and 1940s, as well as in opera and on the concert stage, radio, television, and in nightclubs. A classically trained baritone, he is best remembered for the eight films in which he costarred with soprano Jeanette MacDonald.
Jeanette MacDonald (1903–1965) and Nelson Eddy (1901–1967) were a popular screen couple in the 1930s and '40s, specializing in musicals. They starred in eight films together, all for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Eddy was an opera singer before he became a film star, while MacDonald turned to opera later in her career.
