Wallace Shawn studierte in Harvard und an der University of Oxford Philosophie, Geschichte und Politik. Bekannt wurde Shawn zunächst als Autor und Produzent zahlreicher Theaterstücke in der New Yorker Theaterszene, am bekanntesten wurde Das Fieber ( The Fever, 1990).
