William Thomas George Wentworth-Fitzwilliam, 10th Earl Fitzwilliam JP (28 May 1904 – 21 September 1979), known as Tom, of Wentworth Woodhouse, near Rotherham, Yorkshire (the largest private residence in England) and of Milton Hall, Peterborough (the largest house in Cambridgeshire), was a British peer.
The eighth Earl was Peter Wentworth-Fitzwilliam (31 December 1910 – 13 May 1948). He was killed in an air crash in France. On his early death the line of the eldest son of the sixth Earl failed and titles passed to the late Earl's first cousin once removed, the ninth Earl.

It’s estimated that throughout the 1900s, over 2,000 country houses were lost. The enormous scale of Wentworth Woodhouse made it particularly vulnerable and, in many ways, it’s a miracle that the house did survive to the present day. Peter, the 8th Earl Fitzwilliam, was passionate about securing a future for Wentworth Woodhouse.
