Distal means further away from the point of attachment or farther from the trunk of the body. The fingers are distal to the elbow. Let’s consider the anatomy of the arm as an example:

Hind limbs are those that are found in the back part of the body I.e legs. Human arms have hands which are specialised organs allowing them to grasp and manipulate the objects. Every spring those tangled branches leaning on the fence get a severe haircut--at least that's how I like to think of it--getting prettied up for the season.
