(They were almost certainly lovers at one point, and Tchaikovsky was always at pains to disguise his homosexuality from the general public.)

14 de abr. de 2020 · Iosif Kotek with Tchaikovsky. Kotek, called “Kotik” (little tomcat in Russian) by Tchaikovsky, was summoned to Clarens, Switzerland in 1878 by the composer, who was utterly distraught over a failed attempt at marriage which had lasted all of six weeks.

History. The origins of the Valse-Scherzo are somewhat mysterious. It seems to have been written in January-February 1877; this has been surmised from a letter of 3 February 1877 from Iosif Kotek to Tchaikovsky, which is the first documentary evidence of its existence. Kotek was a violinist and former composition student of Tchaikovsky at the Moscow Conservatory, graduating in 1876.
