In June 2022, Zola Jesus (aka Nika Roza Danilova) released a ten-track album following an intense period of writer’s block, called Arkhon, an ancient Greek word for “power” or “ruler.” For the first time in her career, Danilova waded into the murky waters of the unknown: by involving other musicians into her creative process, she relinquished control of the outcome.
