In so doing, he broke with a long tradition inherited in Western science from Antiquity and perpetuated during the Middle Age through the early Renaissance.

Cesalpino, Andrea (ca. 1520-1603). Filósofo, médico y botánico italiano, nacido en Arezzo, hacia 1520, y muerto en Roma, en 1603. Desde el año 1553 permaneció en Pisa, donde se dedicó a la enseñanza como profesor de Medicina y tuvo el cargo de director del Jardín Botánico. Más tarde dio clases en Roma y fue médico del papa Clemente VIII.
