Newnham College Archives are recognised as an important resource for those studying the history of the higher education of women. In addition to official College records, there is a large photographic collection, and various realia and memorabilia including scrapbooks, student magazines and students’ own photographs and reminiscences.
Newnham is one of the 31 colleges of the University of Cambridge: a place of learning, teaching and research. Our college was established in 1871, as a women’s college at a time when women were not allowed to attend the University. Our co-founders included Dame Millicent Garrett Fawcett, the famous campaigner for women’s suffrage.
