Empress Mene was step-mother to the Emperor's eldest child Princess Romanework. Princess Romanework was the daughter of a previous union of the emperor with Woizero Woinitu Amede (also known as Woizero Altayech).
Princess Romanework Haile Selassie, Emperor Haile Selassie 's daughter and the wife of Dejazmatch Beyene Merid, would later contract tuberculosis and was transferred to Ospedale Maggiore in Turin from Asinara, where she died on 14 October 1940. She was the only child of the Emperor who was captured.

Haile Selassie: Regency and Early Reforms Following the death of Menilek II in 1913, his grandson Lij Yasu was crowned emperor (Emperor Iyasu V).
His daughter Princess Romanework, along with her children, were taken in captivity to Italy, where she died in 1941. His grandson Lij Amha Desta died in Britain just before the restoration, and his daughter Princess Tsehai died shortly after.
