Dit is de eerste keer dat Malick de stream-of-consciousness modus inzet, die sindsdien zijn handelsmerk lijkt te zijn geworden (helaas).
È chiaro che è stato Days of Heaven, non Badlands, ad annunciare veramente il suo stile caratteristico e modo di fare cinema.Mentre il suo debutto era stato rigorosamente realizzato secondo copione, il film successivo è stato, intenzionalmente, un progetto con una struttura molto più libera.
