The new Broadway musical "New York, New York" is inspired by Martin Scorsese's 1977 movie of the same name, which featured songs by Kander and Ebb, including the famous title song. John Kander (born March 18, 1927) is the composer of a series of musical theatre successes as part of the songwriting team of Kander and Ebb. John Kander graduated from Oberlin College. He began his Broadway career as rehearsal pianist for GYPSY, for which he also did the dance arrangements.
