Along with his solo work, he is also known as a member of the rock band Crazy Horse (participated in the recording of the debut album), a member of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band (since 1984), a member and founder/frontman of the band Grin.

[Nils did play on the 'Tunnel of Love' tour, but this was three years later. 'The River' tour took place prior to Nils' involvement with Bruce, and there was no tour to support the 'Nebraska' album.]
