Josh Green signed two bills into law that bolster water safety awareness and honor the legacy of Duke Kahanamoku, Hawai‘i’s premier waterman, by issuing special license plates commemorating the legendary figure. Senate Bill 2841 designates May 15 of each year as Water Safety Day in Hawai‘i.

Hace 3 días · Following his retirement from competition, Kahanamoku acted in several motion pictures, playing minor parts in 28 Hollywood films. He also served as sheriff of the city of Honolulu for 29 years and as the official greeter for the state of Hawaii until his death. Duke Kahanamoku died of a heart attack in 1968 at the age of 77.

13 de may. de 2024 · Seguindo os passos de George Freeth e Duke Kahanamoku, o estadunidense Tom Blake, o “inventor da quilha”, desenvolveu nos anos 1930 a primeira prancha de remada verdadeiramente eficiente. O modelo, batizado de Hollow Board (a famosa prancha oca), era construído a partir de técnicas navais, sendo mais leve e mais rápido que as pranchas sólidas de madeira utilizadas na época.
