Leben. Tom Ewell begann mit der Schauspielerei im Sommer 1928 in einem Musical namens Summer Stock neben Don Ameche.Obwohl er auf Wunsch seiner Familie ursprünglich Anwalt werden sollte, zog er 1931 nach New York und erhielt Schauspielunterricht in einer Klasse mit Montgomery Clift und Karl Malden. 1934 spielte er erstmals am Broadway, 1940 debütierte er in einer kleinen Rolle beim Film.
