Tommy Gemmell. There are very few players can boast of scoring in a European Cup/Champions League final. There are even fewer who can say they’ve done it twice. Tommy Gemmell is one such player who can. He scored Celtic’s equaliser in the 1967 final in Lisbon as the Hoops went on to win the trophy with a 2-1 win over Inter Milan.

Tommy Gemmell was born on 16 October 1943 in his Granny’s house in Cumbrae Drive, Motherwell – the family subsequently moved to nearby Craigneuk in Wishaw when Tommy was five years old. He played on the right wing for his school team and only moved to left-back when his amateur team Meadow Thistle were short of a full back.
