Jack French Kemp (July 13, 1935 – May 2, 2009) was an American politician and a collegiate and professional football player. A Republican, he served as Housing Secretary in the administration of President George H. W. Bush from 1989 to 1993.
Jack Kemp received his Party’s nomination for Vice President in August of 1996 and campaigned nationally for reform of taxation, Social Security and education. From January 1993 until July 2004 he was co-director of Empower America, a public policy and advocacy organization he co-founded with William Bennett and Ambassador Jeane Kirkpatrick.
