  7. Alesso Benozzo di Gozzoli was from a Florentine family. He was studying painting in 1442, subsequently working for Ghiberti as a sculptor in Florence and as principal assistant to Fra Angelico in Rome and Orvieto (1447). He is recorded in these and various other towns in central Italy. He was almost continually in Pisa from 1468 until 1494 or 1495, and died in Pistoia.
