She was born in Oregon and briefly lived in San Francisco but decided to move to Minneapolis to form a band. Babes in Toyland was formed when Bjelland met Barbero in 1987 at a barbeque.
Katherine "Kat" Lynne Bjelland (born December 9, 1963) is an American singer. She became known as the singer of the punk rock band Babes in Toyland. In 2001 the band broke up. That year Bjelland released an album as part of Katastrophy Wife.

Very sad to hear this. Thank you for sharing. She is so talented and seems like such a lovely person. Kat seemed to have it all - gorgeous beyond belief and such a gifted musician. Just the way she sings is amazing. No one can scream like Kat, it´s like it comes from the inner corners of earth. I so wish the best for her.

Within months, she had immersed herself in the tight-knit rock scene and had befriended Lori Barbero and convinced her to take up the drums.
