Hace 5 días · The first Locomotives of the Great Western Railway (GWR) were specified by Isambard Kingdom Brunel but Daniel Gooch was soon appointed as the railway's Locomotive Superintendent. He designed several different 7 ft 1⁄4 in ( 2,140 mm) broad gauge types for the growing railway, such as the Firefly and later Iron Duke Class 2-2-2s.
Hace 3 días · Its foundation was largely due to Daniel (later Sir Daniel) Gooch, locomotive superintendent at Paddington, who was in complete charge in Swindon, although he never lived in the town. The original object of the society was to provide medicine and attendance for the men employed in the G.W.R. works and their families.
The dock company refused to buy the dry dock, and in 1879 the lease was mortgaged to Pender, James Rankin, and Sir Daniel Gooch, for £74,200, then assigned to Pender alone in 1880. Pender reconstituted his ownership under the West India Graving Dock Company, registered in 1883.

The next incumbent was equally unsuccessful and himself reported in 1851 that the congregation had fallen off very much since his appointment, owing to a cry of Tractarianism raised against him.
