Shackleton, of the United Kingdom, wrote to the wife of Leopold de Rothschild (of the Rothschild family’s London-based tentacle) from a “sub-antarctic island” and thanked her for her “great assistance” and all that she had “given” to the expedition.

Hace 1 día · Leopold de Rothschild died in 1917 and his son who would have inherited Gunnersbury died in the same year fighting in Palestine and the estate was acquired under a strict covenant by the adjacent two Boroughs of Ealing and Acton, and Brentford and Chiswick with the grand opening held on 21st May 1926.
After Robinson's death in 1852 his estate was held by his sons until 1861 when the lease of 331 a. surrounding Gunnersbury Park, including the manor house and London Style farm, was assigned to Baron Lionel Nathan de Rothschild, who bought the freehold.

The first stone was laid on 7 June 1877 by Leopold de Rothschild, and the synagogue opened on 30 March 1879. It is similar in appearance to the Princes Road Synagogue in Liverpool. Both were built around the same time by the same architect, George Audsley.
