Der Krater ist stark erodiert, das Innere bis auf eine Gruppe kleinerer Krater weitgehend eben. Der Krater wurde 1935 von der IAU nach dem deutschen Mathematiker Carl Gustav Jacob Jacobi offiziell benannt.
