So when I am layering tracks on my 4 channel Traktor Kontrol, I usually don't keep EQ at 12 o'clock. Rather, I think of the EQs as all active channels should up to "1 unit" of EQ at 12 o'clock. So, with two tracks layered on a particular band, let's say the mids, the mid EQs will be at 9 o'clock.
