13 de may. de 2024 · Sam Houston, American lawyer and politician, a leader in the Texas Revolution (1834–36). He later served as president (1836–38; 1841–44) of the Republic of Texas and was influential in Texas’s becoming a U.S. state in 1845. The city of Houston is named in his honor.

Johnson had English-Irish, German, and Ulster Scots ancestry. Through his mother, he was a great-grandson of Baptist clergyman George Washington Baines.
