Academics. Faculty of Law. The history and tradition of the Chuo Law Faculty date back 137 years to the founding of Chuo University as the Igirisu Horitsu Gakko (English Law School). In the intervening years since 1885, Chuo has produced many talented graduates who have served in the fields of law, government, politics, and business.
Along with the Faculty of Law’s plan to relocate from Hachioji to Bunkyo-ku in 2023, the Chuo Law School is scheduled to move to a new campus in Surugadai. This will enable Chuo Law School to better address academic and professional needs, including combined courses and programs for students aiming to pass the bar examination while law students.
The Graduate School of Law has five areas of specialization: Public Law, Private Law, Criminal Law, International Business Transaction Law, and Political Science. After completing these Chuo Programs, graduates are prepared to pursue justice and fairness in our society as professional researchers or business/government lawyers.
