  4. Dates. Existence: 1867 - 1921. Biography. William Speirs Bruce, explorer and geographer, was born on 1 August 1867 in London, the son of a doctor. His early education was conducted at home, but from the age of eleven he attended Norfolk County School at North Elmham.
