29 de abr. de 2024 · Before Angela Robinson’s D.E.B.S (2004), Cheryl Dunye’s The Watermelon Woman (1996) was the only feature-length film made by a Black lesbian to receive theatrical distribution in the United States. The film uses reflexivity as a mode of resistance to not only bring into question cinematic norms but to decenter the white heterosexist gaze (Zimmer 2008, 42-43).
