Burroughs is the only school in Missouri’s six classes that had both its girls and boys basketball teams advance to the final four in the 2023-24 season. Both teams made it to the championship game — the girls placed first and the boys placed second making it a milestone year for the Burroughs basketball program.

The adjacent Burroughs Elementary School was constructed in 1921, and was named after the beloved author and naturalist John Burroughs who died the same year.
