"Snowbound" and "Dialogue" are perhaps the most headphoney on the songs - you have to pay attention to the nuances to get the most out of the songs. The two songs with Mike Stern, "Stern Stuff" and "Uncle Ed", are the swingingest.
Mike Stern (born January 10, 1953) is an American jazz guitarist. After playing with Blood, Sweat & Tears, he worked with drummer Billy Cobham, then with trumpeter Miles Davis from 1981 to 1983 and again in 1985. He then began a solo career, releasing more than a dozen albums.
Most of Mike Stern's albums have been 100 percent instrumental; as a rule, he doesn't use vocalists because his guitar does all of the "singing." But Voices is an exception -- a highly engaging and memorable exception.
Su segundo trabajo, titulado Time in Place, fue publicado en 1988 e incluye a Peter Erskine en la batería, Jim Beard en el teclado, Jeff Andrews en el bajo, Don Alias en la percusión y Don Grolnick al órgano. Stern stars, but the voices are the real treat and the reason this magical CD is a keeper. His musical dialogues with vocalists Elisabeth Kontonamnou and West-African-born Richard Bona are inspiring and make for wonderful repeated listening.
