Niccolò Ridolfi (1501 – 31 January 1550) was an Italian cardinal . Early life. Born in Florence, son of Piero Ridolfi and Contessina de' Medici (the daughter of Lorenzo de' Medici the Magnificent). His father was a Gonfaloniere of Justice. The family was wealthy and prominent.
Fu eletto amministratore del vescovato di Orvieto nell’agosto del 1520. Nel settembre del 1529 vi rinunciò in favore del suo familiare Vincenzo Duranti, ma lo riprese per regresso dopo la morte di Duranti nel 1545, e nel 1548 lo cedette a un cugino, Niccolò di Lorenzo Ridolfi.

The present study is based on the account books and other perscnal papers of Cardinal Niccolo Ridolfi (1501-1550). The Ridolfi were a wealthy Florentine family, and formed part of the mercantile aristocracy of that city. Niccolo himself was a grandson of Lorenzo the Magnificent and was related to both the Medici Popes of his time.
Niccolò Ridolfi (1501–50), was a Florentine cardinal, nephew and cousin to the Medici popes Leo X and Clement VII, and he owed his status and wealth to their patronage.
