The Honourable Society of Gray's Inn, commonly known as Gray's Inn, is one of the four Inns of Court (professional associations for barristers and judges) in London. To be called to the bar in order to practise as a barrister in England and Wales, an individual must belong to one of these inns.

History. The first known habitation at the Inn, thought to have been on or close to the site of the present Hall, was the Manor House of the ancient Manor of Purpoole (also Portpoole), meaning “the market by the lake” (a cattle market). The Manor House was the property of Sir Reginald de Grey.
Gray’s Inn is the smallest inn, with 300 students joining each year. Its small membership intake is seen as an asset to its barristers. They consider the close-knit community feeling vital to creating a strong legal community and providing the best support.
