A thriving arts scene and world-class performance infrastructure were big motivators for Barrett Hocking and his wife Sonia to move south to Ōtautahi Christchurch. With family nearby and access to an epic lifestyle, it was the obvious choice.
Barrett Hocking. Barrett Hocking performs regularly for the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra and performs around the globe with the double platinum-selling group The Black Seeds, also with iconic NZ supergroup Salmonella Dub. He is also the principal trumpet of Orchestra Wellington.
Graduating with a Masters Degree in Performance Trumpet at the Royal Academy of Music (London), Barrett Hocking is qualified with a LRAM (Licentiate to the Royal Academy of Music in Brass Specific Teaching) to guide students through graded examinations, including Trinity College, ABRSM and NCEA.
Barrett is a skilled and experienced musician with many ensembles, styles and experience to his credit. He also is an active performer, he plays Trumpet with The Black Seeds, Christchurch Symphony Orchestra and is Principal Trumpet of Orchestra Wellington amongst other ensembles.
