Flyte Tyme was a funk band from Minneapolis that launched the careers of vocalists Cynthia Johnson, Alexander O'Neal and producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Many of the group's musicians would later work with Prince. The band's name is a sensational spelling of the phrase "flight time."

Flyte Tyme was a funk band from Minneapolis whose most prominent band members were Lipps, Inc.´s vocalist Cynthia Johnson (lead vocals) and Grammy winning producer duo Jimmy Jam (keys) and Terry Lewis (bass).
In 2003, Jam and Lewis moved their recording operations to Santa Monica, California naming it Flyte Tyme West, due to more opportunities for work and collaboration. In 2006, they won a Grammy for Yolanda Adams' song "Be Blessed", from her 2005 album Day By Day.
