The name chosen for them by their manager was The Primettes, a sister group to the act that had preceded them, the all-male Primes. After three numbers marked by cautious harmony and some rudimentary choreography, the Primettes left the stage to scattered applause.
They form the Primettes, would-be showbiz sisters to the Primes, a male group with two future Temptations in their midst, Eddie Kendricks and Paul Williams. The Primettes triumph in a talent contest in the summer of 1960, and gain an audition at still-young Motown Records.
