It can affect almost any part of the body, but the trembling occurs most often in the hands, especially when doing simple tasks, such as drinking from a glass or tying shoelaces.
Tremor is a neurological condition that includes shaking or trembling movements in one or more parts of the body, most commonly affecting a person’s hands. It can also occur in the arms, legs, head, vocal cords, and torso. The tremor may be constant, or only happen sometimes.
Most tremors are physiologic (normal) tremors, and some are essential tremor or are caused by other disorders. Tremors that occur during rest are often caused by Parkinson disease. Doctors can usually identify the cause based on the history and physical examination.
