The Silence consisted of Townson and Ellison, with Geoff McClelland on guitar and John Hewlett on bass guitar. While performing in France in mid-1966, Townson met the Yardbirds's manager Simon Napier-Bell and invited him to come and see the Silence.
The Silence, as you may know, were the original John's Children in all but name (L-R in the photo: Geoff McClelland, Chris Townson, John Hewlett, Andy Ellison). These three tracks have appeared on various compilations over the years, but this is in fact the first ever standalone release of these historic recordings!
3 de feb. de 2013 · The story of John’s Children begins in 1965 in Great Bookham, where drummer Chris Townson, guitarist Geoff McClelland, harmonica-player Andy Ellison, and singer Louis Grooner played in a band called The Clockwork Onions.
Geoff McClelland has a really cool fuzz guitar sound on the solo and the last chorus on that version. Come And Play With Me In The Garden (Ellison/Hewlett) A re-edited and remixed version of an earlier B-side, "Remember Thomas à Becket".
There in the living room, were Mr. Dawsett's son, Chris, plonking away on a Farfisa organ, and a very tall lank fellow (Geoff McClelland) strumming on a red Maton guitar. There also in the room was a small girl of about eight years of age, banging away on a drum kit that towered over her head.
16 de mar. de 2017 · John’s Children and Napier-Bell eventually agreed that Geoff McClelland, whose job it was to “faint” on stage when the band ran out of songs so they had an excuse to cut the set short, didn’t really fit in with the rest of the band and he was let go.
