About. History of the College. Newnham began as a house for five students in Regent Street in Cambridge in 1871. Gill Sutherland’s history of the College, from its foundation in 1871 until the present day, also contains photos from our archives. Lectures for Ladies had been started in Cambridge in 1870.
Newnham College 1871-2021: 150 years of pioneering, inspiring, supporting, sharing… The 150th Anniversary celebrations will run throughout 2021 to the summer of 2022. Events, projects and inspiration for everyone to get involved in – whether virtually or here in person.
