Oberlin Jazz Ensemble, founded in 1973, is one of several ensembles established by Wendell Logan, a beloved professor of African American music and onetime chair of Oberlin’s Division of Jazz Studies.

21 de mar. de 2024 · Oberlin Jazz Ensemble. The Oberlin Jazz Ensemble features primarily jazz performance majors, though some classical performance majors audition and perform with the group. They perform in Finney Chapel during the academic year and have appeared at college festivals throughout the United States.
The Oberlin Orchestra, conducted by Raphael Jiménez, features Oberlin Conservatory student musicians performing concert works for our largest ensemble. This concert features a 2023-2024 Senior Concerto Competition winner Drew Dansby, cello, performing with faculty and students from the Jazz division on David Baker's Concerto
The Oberlin Jazz Ensemble, composed of jazz as well as classical performance majors, is a component in a four-year curriculum in jazz studies, leading to a bachelor of music degree with a concentration in performance, composition, or both.
