James Rudolph Garfield (October 17, 1865 – March 24, 1950) was an American lawyer and politician. Garfield was a son of President James A. Garfield and First Lady Lucretia Garfield. He served as Secretary of the Interior during President Theodore Roosevelt's administration.
James R. Garfield became an active, reform-minded Republican and served two terms in the Ohio Senate from January 1896 to April 1898. In 1902, President Theodore Roosevelt appointed him to the Federal Civil Service Commission, which had been established as a result of his father’s assassination.
