The East India Company was nationalised and the college closed in 1858, becoming a public school with continuing ties to the former college. The college buildings survive and are now occupied by the public school's successor, Haileybury and Imperial Service College, a private school.

Writer, poet and children’s author Rudyard Kipling’s association with Haileybury lies with the College’s connection to the United Services College (the USC) and the Imperial Service College (the ISC).
Haileybury was established in 1862 on the site of the former East India College, whose quadrangle – “the Quad” – it still occupies today. In 1942, the School merged with the Imperial Service College (which itself had merged with the United Services College in 1906) to become Haileybury and Imperial Service College.
