Writer's Statement. The story of Zinzi, a fictional character, was sparked by my interest in the African culture that gave rise to Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and the American culture that gave rise to modern jazz – and in what ways the two are linked.

Phyllis MacBryde (Co-Director/Producer) is an award-winning playwright, screenwriter and author who dreamed of working with the Ngqoko Cultural Group after seeing them in a play in New York. Zinzi and the Ngqoko Women is the product of her ten-year endeavor to make that happen.
Phyllis MacBryde is a theater actor and writer who has collaborated on original musicals and screenplays. She was a finalist for the Nicholl Fellowship and the William Faulkner - William Wisdom Award, and appeared in The Adjustment Bureau as a suburban neighbor.
