August became major-general of the Polish Army in 1729, voivode of the Ruthenian Voivodship in 1731, general starost of Podolia in 1750–1758, and a Knight of Malta.
The Czartoryski had risen to power under August Aleksander Czartoryski (1697–1782) of the Klewa line, who married Zofia Denhoffowa, the only heir to the Sieniawski family. The family attained the height of its influence from the mid-18th century in the court of King Augustus III (r. 1734–1763).

August Aleksander Czartoryski was born on 9 November 1697 in Warsaw. He was the second son of Kazimierz Czartoryski (1674–1741) and Izabela Czartoryska née Morsztyn (1671–1758). He came from a famous ducal family which used the Lithuanian Pahonia in its seal.
