Nathan Straus (January 31, 1848 – January 11, 1931) was an American businessman and philanthropist who co-owned two of New York City's largest department stores, R. H. Macy & Company and Abraham & Straus. He was the namesake for the Israeli city Netanya.

He has been considered the person who did the most for the city’s welfare in the first quarter of the 20th century.

It was that moment, in 1892, when Straus became a fierce advocate for the pasteurization of milk.
