Aunque nacido en Louisiana, Illinois Jacquet, es un ejemplo del típico saxofonista tejano, de timbre rico y aire marcadamente blusero. Su presencia en el escenario siempre estaba marcada por su carácter extrovertido y su actitud era la de un verdadero showman.
