Joseph Grimond, Baron Grimond, CH, CBE, TD, PC ( / ˈɡrɪmənd /; 29 July 1913 – 24 October 1993) was a British politician, leader of the Liberal Party for eleven years from 1956 to 1967 and again briefly on an interim basis in 1976.
Jo Grimond (born July 29, 1913, St. Andrews, Fife, Scot.—died Oct. 24, 1993, Kirkwall, Orkney Islands) was the leader of the British Liberal Party during its resurgence after World War II. Educated at Eton and the University of Oxford, Grimond was called to the bar in 1937.
Regarded by many contemporary Liberals as their spiritual leader and mentor, Jo Grimond was a figure of great magnetism and intellectual originality. He was once described as a politician on whom the gods smile, and inspired a rare degree of public affection.
