  4. Frank Johnston (1888-1949) was a painter who participated in the first exhibition of the Group of Seven in 1920, but left Toronto in 1921 to become the principal of the Winnipeg School of Art. He painted landscapes in tempera, using decorative and realistic styles, and was known for his reflections of light on water.
