Otobong Nkanga (Kano, 1974) es una artista visual y artista de performance de Nigeria y residente en Amberes. Cultiva además la instalación, la fotografía, el dibujo y la escultura. [1] En 2015 ganó el Premio Yanghyun. [2] [3] En 2019 fue mención especial en la 58 edición de la Bienal de Arte de Venecia.
Born. 1974 (age 49–50) Kano, Nigeria. Nationality. Nigerian/Belgian. Awards. Yanghyun Prize. Otobong Nkanga (born 1974) is a Nigerian -born visual artist, tapestry maker and performance artist, based in Antwerp, Belgium. In 2015, she won the Yanghyun Prize.
A monographic exhibition of the Nigerian artist Otobong Nkanga, who explores the notion of earth as a geological and discursive formation. The exhibition includes sculpture, drawing, performance, writing and pedagogy, and will feature a site-specific project for Gallery 1 at the IVAM.
Otobong Nkanga’s work foregrounds ecological themes of relationality and becoming through a distilled poetics of entanglement. Her multidisciplinary practice examines the complex social, political, and material relationships between bodies, territories, minerals and the earth.
