George Bird Grinnell (September 20, 1849 – April 11, 1938) was an American anthropologist, historian, naturalist, and writer. Originally specializing in zoology, he became a prominent early conservationist and student of Native American life.

George Bird Grinnell was a New Yorker who studied and preserved the stories and cultures of Plains Indians, especially the Pawnees, Blackfeet, and Cheyennes. He also shaped the early American conservation movement and accompanied Custer in the Black Hills.
