Eritrea, oficialmente el Estado de Eritrea (en tigriña: ሃገረ ኤርትራ, romanizado: Hagere Ertra; en árabe: دولة إرتريا , romanizado : Dawlat Irītriyā ), es un país situado al noreste de África.
La historia de Eritrea es la historia del territorio del actual estado de Eritrea. Hasta 1890 el nombre Eritrea sólo fue la versión italiana de la palabra griega "Erythraia", tomada del nombre que los antiguos griegos daban al Mar Rojo .
