Townes seems to have written Kathleen and Our Mother the Mountain on the same night, or so he claims on Live at The Old Quarter, Houston, Texas just before he plays Kathleen, one of my all time favorite songs. In fact this is the sort of follow up to the debut, like Strange Days or Scott 2, in which it seems as though the artist has had such a prolific creative period where the songs just flow.
I have Our Mother the Mountain on the '78 Tomato reissue and the self titled album on the '89 Tomato reissue. Both sound so much clearer and crisper than the fat possum reissues that I have (live at the old quarter and flyin shoes). I won't purchase another fat possum issue and will continue to search for tomato presssings from the 70s and 80's
